they say time heals all wounds, but they never say how much time. and they never mention the scars. maybe they do in the cliché sense that the wound has healed, but the healing leaves a mark that will never go away, something that will always be a reminder whether you want it there or not. and they never tell you that scars are actually strange beasts in and of themselves. how they give the appearance that all is well and tidily taken care of, when the almost irreparable damage lurks just below the surface. they never tell you how it will never be the same again. they also never tell you how scars are numb to the undiscerning touch, but when a heavy blow comes, they are actually quite sensitive and pain can penetrate quite quickly. sure they may offer a great story, proof of your battle-hardened glory. but then, you never can quite escape from the story that time has not provided a happy ending for yet.
